2023 marked the 75th anniversary of the release of John Lee Hooker's 'Boogie Chillen'. It was recorded in Detroit in September 1948 by Bernard Besman for his Sensation label. It was licensed to Modern Records in Los Angeles and released on November 3.
'Boogie Chillen' and 'Boogie Chillen' #2' is now released as a limited 7inch.
Even though this classic recording is 75 years old, it still sounds so fresh and rhythmically driving, with a man and his guitar playing live in a room and stomping his feet. Producer Besman caught a flash when he flashed, just as Sam Philips did a few years later with Elvis Presley at Sun Studios. There are classics - and there is 'Boogie Chill'.
