Catchy melodies and tropical rhythms—Japan’s premier calypso/Latin band, CaSSETTE CON-LOS, finally releases their first full-length album in 13 years!
For this project, they enlisted Japan’s renowned recording and live dub engineer, Naoyuki Uchida, and recorded in a studio repurposed from an abandoned elementary school, capturing the energy of a single-take performance.
The album showcases the vibrant soundscapes and resonant appeal of their unique ensemble to perfection.
From pre-war calypso, beloved by bandleader Wada Mambo, to influences from Mighty Sparrow and Lord Kitchener, as well as Latin and African grooves, the album serves up these styles like a masterful "grill." The 11-track lineup includes the pre-released single "Let’s Watch a Movie", the humorous "Frank Sinatra" imagining Sinatra singing calypso, the heartfelt "Memories" dedicated to "those who’ve gone ahead," and the live favorite "a-ha", a danceable calypso anthem perfect for drinking and singing.
This long-awaited masterpiece exceeds expectations and is a must-listen for fans everywhere!
